About

Hi, I'm Katie! I weave on my vintage wooden loom in my studio by the sea in Tasmania. Each piece of my handwoven cloth is created with the intention of it becoming an heirloom. My practice is inspired by ancient traditions, and the ways in which the natural world intersects with our domestic human lives. Functional, long-wearing textiles featuring geometric florals and nature-inspired motifs are my favourite things to weave. I weave every textile myself, by hand, and do not outsource any part of the process.

Humans have been weaving cloth for tens of thousands of years, but the industrialisation of the craft has become one of the most significant contributors to the fast fashion conveyor belt of waste and environmental damage. Choosing handwoven cloth in 100% natural fibres is a significant way you can reduce your impact on the earth, while also acquiring a future heirloom for you and your family.

You can be assured that any textile purchased from me consists of 100% natural fibres that will break down naturally in the compost once its life cycle is complete. It will not shed microplastics. I also do my best to reduce waste as much as possible, and any waste yarn or cloth I generate through the weaving process goes into my own compost and feeds the soil of my garden.
